Criminal
Justice
The 36-credit M.S. in Criminal Justice prepares you for a wide range
of careers in both the public and private sectors. Concentrations
areavailable in fraud examination and security administration. Twenty-one
credits of required courses include: Technology and the Criminal Justice
System; Critical Issues in Law and Society; Theories of Crime Causation;
Foundations of Scholarship; Research Design and Method and Thesis
and Research Consultation. Fifteen credits are devoted to your choice
of electives.
Upon graduation, you
will be prepared to seek employment within various public and private
agencies. In recent years, students have been employed by a variety
of law enforcement agencies, the courts, social services agencies,
research institutes, probation departments, alternatives-to-incarceration
agencies, and correctional facilities to name a few. Study with
both full-time and adjunct faculty who are working professionals
and experts in their fields.
This program is also
offered at the University's Brentwood Campus. In cooperation with
the Office of Special Programs, a criminal justice program for in-service
personnel is also offered at reduced tuition rates at the Nassau
County Department of Probation. Admission to that program is limited
to employees of criminal justice and related government agencies.

The Accelerated
B.A./M.S. offers the option to earn both the B.A. in Criminal Justice
and the M.S. in Criminal Justice in just 5 years of full-time study.
Enter as a freshman or transfer student and complete the 129-credit
undergraduate program. In your senior year complete 12 credits of
graduate level coursework, which is then applied to your graduate
degree, reducing the number of remaining credits for successful
completion of the M.S. to 24 credits. Information about this program

Health
Care Administration
Because of changes in government policies and extensive advancements
in technology, the field of health care administration has evolved
into a respected profession - one that offers a multitude of new
career opportunities. The Master of Public Administration in Health
Care Administration provides the comprehensive curriculum needed
to succeed in a highly complex, competitive, and ever-changing health
care environment. Courses examine both practical and theoretical
problems in the field and provide an understanding of a wide range
of topics including organizational structures, administrative techniques,
policy analysis and program management.
Your plan of study is
comprised of 21 credits of foundation courses, including: Principles
of Public Administration; Organizational Theory and Behavior in
the Public Sector; Economic Environment and the Public Sector; Computer
Applications; Analytical Methods; Computer-based Management Systems;
and The Policy Process in Health Care Administration.
The Advanced Core Curriculum
(9 credits) explores various aspects of public sector administration
including: Human Resource Administration; Fundamentals of Budgeting
and Finance; and Administrative Responsibility and the Legal Environment;
twelve credits of electives and a Thesis round out the program.
A specialization in Gerontology Administration is also available
for those interested in pursuing a career in this rapidly expanding
field.
Our M.P.A. degree is
the only one offered on Long Island that is accredited by the National
Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration.

wide range of careers in public sector management, law, and administration
of not-for-profit organizations. It also provides opportunities
for those already employed in public service to improve their administrative
skills, pursue a specific area of interest, and prepare for increasing
levels of responsibility and management.

J.
D./M.P.A.
The dual J.D./M.P.A. program prepares you for a variety of careers
in law firms, health care facilities, government agencies and consulting
firms. The J.D. program, offered by Touro Law Center, just 20 minutes
away in Huntington, Long Island, provides fundamental legal theory
and emphasizes organization, analytical and expression skills. The
M.P.A. program, offered by the Department of Health Care and Public
Administration in the College of Management at the C.W. Post Campus
of Long Island University, contributes a strong theoretical grounding
in the principles of health care administration. When combined,
these two programs provide a comprehensive understanding of the
legal, managerial and programmatic aspects of the interaction of
the fields of health and law and prepare you for leadership positions
in various aspects of health law.
The number of credits
required to obtain this dual degree is 105. Up to 12 credits of
courses from each program can be transferred to the other program.
Although this is a dual
program, the J.D. and M.P.A. degrees are awarded separately by their
respective degree-granting institutions upon successful completion
of graduation requirements.

and be admitted to each institution separately.
