Art (M.A.)
If art is your passion, you can choose from either the M.F.A. in Fine Arts and Design or the M.A. in Art. Both programs focus on studio art, new avenues of creative expression and an understanding of theories and practices of contemporary work. Emphasis is placed on your artistic growth and the substance of your concepts, knowledge and use of materials, and quality of craftsmanship.
The M.F.A. in Fine Arts and Design, with concentrations in painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, printmaking, digital media, mixed media and drawing, offers a two-year full-time degree or a three-year part-time option. Both require completion of a minimum of 60 graduate credits. The program is a focused and intense immersion in professional artistic discourse, practice and development. In campus studios you will work with supportive professional artists to create a wide range of new and traditional genres.
The M.A. in Art offers concentrations in studio art, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, ceramics, digital arts and design, drawing, and mixed media. The program requires completion of a minimum of 36 graduate credits.

Art Education - Birth to Grade 12 (M.S.)
Many creative people share their talents and passions for art by teaching. If you are one of them, the M.S. in Art Education will develop your artistic discipline through studio course work while covering strong content for teaching art to students from birth to Grade 12. You may broaden your creative production through the use of traditional and electronic media while exploring teaching courses, such as Philosophy of Art Education; Psychological and Developmental Foundations of Education; and Social Foundations of American Education.
Two specially designed tracks are available. For students pursuing New York State Certification for teaching visual art, the first track includes 18 credits of education courses, such as: Curriculum and Teaching in Middle and High Schools; Elementary Art Studio Workshop; and Issues of Race, Class & Gender: Teaching Diverse Populations, in addition to student teaching. Eighteen additional credits of art courses include choices in various mediums and topics in art history. Graduate assistantships may provide pre-service teachers with additional experience in museum teaching, research and leadership practice.
For students who have provisional/initial certification from New York State and are seeking professional certificates, the second track requires 18 credits of art courses and 18 credits of education courses. Advanced topics in psychology, curriculum development, research and art teaching provide a challenging and engaging program for professional development leading to the completion of the New York State Education Department's permanent certification requirements.

Clinical Art Therapy (M.A.)
If you are interested in a career in art therapy, the M.A. in Clinical Art Therapy offers a highly clinical, innovative and integrated curriculum, which fuses studio art and psychology. Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy, which uses art media, art imagery, symbolism and the creative process to explore thoughts, feelings and other aspects of an individual psychological development. Drawing, painting, sculpture and a multitude of other media are employed as a vehicle for therapeutic expression. The art product is an important analytical and psychodynamic look for clinical art therapists in both individual and group treatment therapy.
Specialized course topics include Interactive Family Art Psychotherapy - an overview of family systems theories and the application of the arts to family treatment; Clinical Methods - an overview of the practice of group art psychotherapy and the exploration of drawings, paintings and sculpture for their diagnostic potential; and Special Populations and Issues in Child Art Therapy - an examination of art therapy in relation to childhood autism, schizophrenia, bipolar, depression, sensory deficits, orthopedics, and developmental disabilities. The graduate program requires clinical internships for a total of 700 hours, as well as a strong research emphasis culminating in the completion of a master's thesis.

Interactive Multimedia Arts (M.A.)
A digital revolution is going on. Are you ready? The M.A. in Interactive Multimedia Arts, the only degree of its kind on Long Island, prepares you for rewarding careers in the graphics industry. Start by taking nine required courses that cover the broad spectrum of basic theoretical and practical information about emerging interactive media. These courses include: An Overview of Interactive Multimedia; Writing, Research and Evaluation for Multimedia; Multimedia Labs I & II; Social, Ethical and Legal Contexts of Communications Technologies and Multimedia; Multimedia History, Theory and
Criticism; Moving Image in Multimedia; 3D Modeling and Rendering; and Web Design.
Learn to create independently or on collaborative teams, the working structure most commonly employed by multimedia production companies. State-of-the-art computer graphic labs, video editing facilities and a television studio provide the perfect environment for producing class projects and building your professional portfolio. The program requires completion of 36 graduate credits. Students may pursue either a two-year full time or three-year part time option.

Music (M.A.)
The Department of Music offers the M.A. in Music with concentrations in the areas of Music Theory and Composition and Music History and Literature. The Music Theory and Composition major focuses on a 12-credit core of theory and composition courses exploring The Study of Musical Forms; Jazz Composition and Arranging; Orchestration; Composition; and Harmony and Counterpoint. A six-credit sampling of music history and literature, 12 credits in elective courses, and a thesis complete this comprehensive, 36-credit program. Our Music Technology Lab offers high-tech options for composition, theory, recording and developing ear-training skills.
The Music History and Literature major features a 12-credit core that explores topics which include The History of Musical Instruments; The Role of Opera in the History of Music; Musicology; and Baroque and Classical Music. Six credits of music theory and composition, 12 credits in elective courses, and a thesis round out the curriculum.
No matter which major you choose, you'll be encouraged to participate in and attend a wide range of concerts and musical events performed for audiences both on and off campus. You'll also enjoy performances by some of the world's greatest musicians and performers at the world renowned Tilles Center for the Performing Arts. Music Education- Birth to Grade 12 (M.S.)
Share your passion for music with others by pursuing a career in music education. The M.S. in Music Education program focuses on music skill development and teaching pedagogy. The curriculum is designed to prepare students to teach music to pre-schoolers, elementary-aged children, secondary aged children, and children of all ages with special needs. Explore the uses of technology in music education and further develop your skills in composition, theory, recording and ear-training in our Music Technology Lab.
Two plans of study are offered: one for students who have provisional/initial certification from New York State and are seeking professional certification; the other for those without provisional, initial, permanent or professional certification. The first requires 18 credits in education courses; nine credits in advanced music education courses; and nine credits in History/Literature, Theory/Composition, Applied Music or other music courses. The latter requires 24 semester hours of credits in education; 12 credits in music education studies including Classroom Teaching, Instrumental Methodology, and Vocal Methodology; and six semester credit hours in History/Literature, Theory/Composition, Applied Music or other music courses.
The Music Education program leads to the completion of the New York State Education Department's professional certification requirements. Study and create with world-renowned musicians and performers in a stimulating learning environment.

Theatre (M.A.)
Discover who you are or who you could be in the world of theatre. Our 36-credit M.A. in Theatre is designed to prepare you for a broad range of career options. Whether you prefer acting, directing, designing, managing regional or community theatre or teaching drama, you will find an incredibly creative and supportive environment in which to learn and grow. Your professors are seasoned professionals who know the field inside and out.
Required course work includes 24 credits of a Core Curriculum with options for specialization in areas of particular interest to you. Internships are specifically tailored to enrich your education and provide you with valuable hands-on experience and professional contacts that are critical for success in the business.
