Become an English Teacher

B.S. in Adolescence Education (Grades 7-12): English/M.A. in English
The 150-credit accelerated degree program prepares you for New York State teaching certification as a middle and high school English teacher. Upon successful completion of the required courses, you will be awarded both the Bachelor of Science in Adolescence Education: English (Grades 7-12) and the Master of Arts in English in just five years – a full year less than if the degrees were pursued separately. Administered jointly by C.W. Post’s School of Education and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the program draws on the resources of one of New York’s top-rated teacher education institutions and a well established, widely acclaimed center for liberal arts education.

  • The Bachelor of Science in Adolescence Education: English (Grades 7-12) provides an in-depth look into the theory and practice of teaching middle and high school students, using classroom instruction to foster intellectual, social and personal development. You will study the dynamics of group and individual motivations and learn to develop innovative instruction plans.

  • The Master of Arts in English is a powerful credential in the world of business, government and education. Our curriculum combines the wealth of the British and American literary traditions with innovative study of everyday language through courses in linguistics and history of the English language.

Qualities That Set Our Program Apart
