CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION
Those involved in clinical ethics in Nassau and Suffolk counties have many common interests, and can benefit from the development of a forum to share ideas and concerns. This program is designed to enhance the skills needed by professionals and institutional ethics committee members to explore ethical decision-making as it applies to end-of-life care in an organizational setting. It will be the first of a series of regular meetings and conferences designed to develop the expertise of professionals confronting ethical issues.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this conference, participants should be able to:
· Discuss the organization's responsibilities in end-of-life care;
· Consider the reasons why ethics committees need to be aware of organizational issues;
· Recognize the role of the administrator in quality end-of-life care;
· Explain the physician's and spiritual care perspective;
· Describe types of cases in which organizational issues play a role.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Ethics committee chairpersons and members, physicians, nurses, social workers, psychologists, patient representatives, administrators, pastoral care, hospice personnel, home care providers.
