"The Future of Freedom: America and the World in an Election Year" by Ralph Buultjens, Senior Professor at New York University and former Nehru Professor at Cambridge University (U.K.). Enjoy a fun-filled day with alumni, students, faculty and staff at our 50th anniversary-themed Homecoming. This celebration attracts more than 5,000 fellow Posties and you won’t want to miss it! Events include carnival attractions, float parade, a tasty barbecue, club and organization booths, a haunted house, petting zoo, and tailgate tent party. Festivities are held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hickox Football Field. See our Northeast 10 powerhouse football team take on American International of Springfield, Mass. at 1 p.m. Other sports action for the day includes a field hockey alumni game, volleyball alumni game, and varsity men’s and women’s soccer. A guided walking tour of the C.W. Post Community Arboretum led by horticulturalist Vincent Simeone. A 60-minute tour and history lesson on some of Long Island’s rarest, oldest and most interesting trees, including the Tulip tree, Table Top Scotch Elm, Blue Atlas Cedar and American Elm. 3 p.m. Meet in Great Hall/Administration Building. The exhibit – a narrative of Hughes’ life and career, with photos and samples of his work – will be on display in the library lobby. LECTURE: "A Renaissance Murder Mystery: Secrets of the Medici."
World–renowned mummy expert Dr. Bob Brier, Senior Research Fellow at C.W. Post and television host of TLC's Mummy Detective Series, discusses his most recent research on the remains of one of history's most influential and powerful families, the Medici. Dr. Brier is the first to conduct scientific research on the exhumed corpses of five Medici who were buried in the famous San Lorenzo Chapel in Florence, Italy between 1492 and 1737. Dr. Brier is studying their causes of death by tracing the evolution of such diseases as TB, malaria, cancer, gout and arthritis. 12:30 p.m. in the Hillwood Commons Lecture Hall. As part of the 50th anniversary celebration, the C.W. Post Poetry Center will be holding the 39th annual Poetry Awards Night on Thursday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Great Hall. In honor of this festive occasion, Norbert Krapf, the C.W. Post Campus Poet Laureate, will read from his new book, “Looking for God’s Country,” as well as from some of the collection he wrote to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Campus.
