Curriculum Overview

Bachelor of Science Program in Nursing

Our program is specifically designed to accommodate the Registered Nurse. Classes with your peers in an atmosphere of respect for the needs of the adult learner make returning to school a positive experience.

Graduates of associate degree programs in nursing receive 28 transfer credits for previous nursing education and graduates of diploma schools receive 28 credits of advanced standing towards the degree.

Transfer credits for liberal arts and sciences courses taken at other colleges or universities will be evaluated individually. A total of 72 credits (including the 28 credits of nursing) can be transferred to C.W. Post.

Master of Science Degree Program in Nursing
(Concentration in Family Nurse Practitioner)

The core curriculum for these master's degrees includes course work in nursing theory, issues in professional nursing for advanced practice nurses and nurse educators, family issues, nursing research, advanced pathophysiology, pharmacology for advanced practice nursing and advanced health assessment. Students are required to complete a research proposal as part of their degree requirements. Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) students are required to complete 26 credits of core courses.

The 46-credit Family Nurse Practitioner program can be completed in six semesters of part-time study or four semesters of full-time study.

FNP candidates complete three semesters of nurse practitioner or physician preceptored clinical practice -- one semester in association with the advanced health assessment course and two additional semesters in settings providing primary health care to families (adults and children).

Graduates of the program will be eligible for board certification by the American Nurses Association Credentialing Center (ANCC) and for New York State certification as family nurse practitioners.

Master of Science in Advanced Practice Nursing: Clinical Nurse Specialist

The 39-credit Clinical Nurse Specialist program can be completed in six semesters of part-time study or four semesters of full-time study.

CNS candidates complete three semesters of CNS preceptored clinical practice: one semester in association with the advanced physical assessment course and two semesters either in the candidate’s area of specialization or a general medical surgical area.

Master's in Nursing Education students are required to complete 12 credits of core courses and 21 credits of specialty courses.

The 33 credit Nurse Education program can be completed in five semesters of part-time study and one summer session. Nurse Educator candidates complete two semesters of preceptored teaching practice.

Advanced Certificate in Nursing Education

A 21-credit post-master’s Advanced Certificate program in Nursing Education can be completed in four semesters and one summer session. It is open to qualified nurses who have a master’s degree in nursing and who want to become nurse educators.

The core curriculum for the post-master's Advanced Certificate in Nursing Education includes specialty course work in nursing education. Master's in Nursing Education students are required to complete 21 credits of specialty courses.
