C.W. Post offers a bachelor’s degree program exclusively for RNs and Master of Science degrees in Family Nurse Practitioner, Advanced Practice Nursing: Clinical Nurse Specialist and Nursing Education. Also offered are post-master’s advanced certificates in Family Nurse Practitioner and Nursing Education. We offer individualized attention and small classes to accommodate the needs of the Registered Nurse. Faculty members are available to answer questions and prospective students are encouraged to contact the Department of Nursing to speak with a professor.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing

The C.W. Post Department of Nursing offers our baccalaureate program at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, N.Y. In addition, an off-site program is located at North Shore University Hospital in nearby Manhasset, N.Y. This upper-division program for Registered Nurses leads to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree with a major in nursing. Courses are offered on flexible day and evening schedules to meet the needs of the working nurse. The nursing courses build on the knowledge and experience that registered nurses already possess. C.W. Post offers a wide range of courses in liberal arts and sciences to enhance and broaden your nursing expertise.

Master of Science Degree Program in Nursing

C.W. Post offers the Master of Science in Family Nurse Practitioner.  Graduates of the Family Nurse Practitioner program will be eligible for a New York State certificate as a family nurse practitioner and will be eligible for board certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Family nurse practitioners provide assessments, direct care, and guidance to patients and their families in a wide variety of health care settings.

Master of Science in Advanced Practice Nursing: Clinical Nurse Specialist

C.W. Post offers the Master of Science in Advanced Practice Nursing as a clinical nurse specialist. Graduates of the Clinical Nurse Specialist master’s degree program will be eligible for board certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.  Clinical nurse specialists practice in a variety of health care settings.  They are expert clinicians in a specialized field of nursing and provide consultation for nursing staffs and are instrumental in designing and incorporating changes in health care delivery systems.

The Master of Science in Nursing Education qualifies graduates to teach in schools of nursing at the LPN, associate, bachelor’s and master’s levels and to serve as staff educators in health care facilities. It is also open to nurses who need specific education courses for New York State certification as secondary school health education teachers.

Advanced Certificates in Nursing
The post-master’s Advanced Certificate in Family Nurse Practitioner is a 27-credit program offered to RNs who hold a master’s degree in nursing and wish to become family nurse practitioners. Candidates for this certificate will complete course work and preceptored clinical practice in settings providing primary health care to families. The Advanced Certificate in Nursing Education is open to RNs with master’s degrees and consists of 21 credits of course work.

Accreditations

The academic programs of the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University are registered with the New York State Education Department and are accredited by the Commission of Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.

The Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Programs in Nursing are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

Learning Environment ^^top 

The faculty promotes a learning environment that encourages individual exploration and fosters critical thinking, decision making, and professional growth. Classes differ in their approach depending on course content. The information is presented in both lecture and seminar format. The faculty participate in the educational process as role models, facilitators, and mentors.
