There are many interesting career opportunities in food and nutrition, and the programs at the C.W. Post Campus provide excellent preparation for these careers.

If you wish to become a Registered Dietitian, you can complete our undergraduate program, the Didactic Program in Dietetics, and earn a Bachelor of Science degree. If you already have a degree in another field and wish to become a Registered Dietitian, you can complete these requirements in a second baccalaureate degree or in a combined B.S./M.S. program.

A supervised practice program is also required for eligibility to take the national examination to become a Registered Dietitian. We have an accredited supervised practice program -- the Dietetic Internship (DI). Entry to this program requires prior completion of the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) and is an  additional application process with 20 students accepted each year.

For advanced study in nutrition, our Master of Science degree program includes specialization in Clinical Nutrition, Nutrition and Exercise Physiology, Nutrition in Geriatrics and Eating Disorders as well as the opportunity to pursue electives of particular interest to you.

Bachelor of Science in Nutrition

The Bachelor of Science in Nutrition is a four-year degree program that offers a science-oriented, liberal arts foundation for understanding nutrition. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to apply to an accredited dietetic internship or to obtain a position that does not requires registration.

Accelerated B.S./M.S. in Nutrition

This program will accelerate entry to the field and to advanced study of nutrition. Up to four graduate courses can be substituted for selected undergraduate courses. The academic requirements for entry to a Dietetic Internship and completion of the Internship can be accomplished during the BS/MS programs.

Dietetic Internship in Nutrition

The Dietetic Internship (DI) Program is a supervised practice program that awards a Certificate of Advanced Studies and prepares students to become Registered Dietitians. Graduates will be eligible to apply to the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) to sit for the Registration Examination. Upon passing the exam, a student will become a Registered Dietitian (R.D.).

Master of Science in Nutrition

The M.S. in Nutrition provides advanced study in nutrition with four areas of concentration: Nutrition and Exercise Physiology, Clinical Nutrition, Geriatric Nutrition, and Eating Disorders. Graduates are prepared to assume leadership positions in nutrition.
