Overview

Our School of Health Professions and Nursing offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs in medical biology, nursing, nutrition, forensic science, health information management and radiologic technology. Our students benefit from intense classroom studies, and didactic, laboratory and clinical experiences. The many internship opportunities provide the real-life experiences that are so crucial to practicing in today's work environment.

The Department of Biomedical Sciences offers bachelor of science degrees in Clinical Laboratory Sciences and Health Technology, as well as master of science degrees in Medical Biology and Clinical Laboratory Management. These programs enable students to qualify for the American Society of Clinical Pathologists examinations in Medical Technology Categories or the diplomate in Clinical Laboratory Management. This department also offers the bachelor of science degree in Forensic Science. Students in the Forensic Science program can qualify to sit for national certification exams sponsored by the American Board of Criminalistics and the College of Forensic Examiners Institute. Our M.S. in Cardiovascular Prefusion is one of only three in the country.

Students can obtain a B.S. or M.S. in Nutrition and enroll in a one-year post-baccalaureate Dietetic Internship, which prepares students to sit for the RD (Registered Dietitian) examination. They can also earn a combined B.S./M.S. in Nutrition in only five years in our accelerated program.

The Radiologic Technology program offers one of only two baccalaureate programs in New York State leading to a B.S. degree in Radiologic Technology.

Practical experience is a vital component of our programs. Students participate in internships at well-known hospitals such as North Shore University Hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center as well as at senior citizen facilities, pharmaceutical companies and many others.

When our students graduate, they are well equipped to pursue many exciting health careers. For example, nurse practitioner and nutrition graduates often enter private practice, while many obtain permanent positions at major health care facilities. Graduates of the Clinical Laboratory Science, Health Information Management and Radiologic Technology Programs find employment at area institutions.
