The Nutrition Club

The 2002-2003 academic school year was quite exciting for the Nutrition Club. Starting in October the club raised $300 for the Breast Cancer Association and the Lupus Foundation. The Lupus Foundation honored club members with a plaque thanking them for their time and effort in supporting such an important cause. The Club also raised $200 through bake sales for the Kidney & Urology Foundation of America.

In November the Nutrition Club, along with the Physical Education Club, ran the turkey trot. This was a 3-mile run around the campus. The proceeds were donated to Long Island Cares. Also, during the holidays, club members brought boxes of food and clothing to Long Island Cares to help the needy.

In March, the members participated in the annual basketball fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer. Together with other clubs on the C.W. Post Campus they were able to raise over $2,500.

The Nutrition Club also assisted the Long Island Dietetic Association during their symposium on diabetes management. Members displayed a model of the Food Guide Pyramid and distributed helpful handouts.

At the end of April, the club helped raise funds by walking for the “March of Dimes,” which strives to improve survival rates of premature infants. With the participation and support of everyone in the Nutrition Club we have been able to accomplish many great things this academic school year.

Medical Imaging Society Activities

The Medical Imaging Society was founded in the fall of 1993 with the goal of enriching the academic environment by providing professional information to undergraduate students in the radiologic technology program. This is accomplished by keeping abreast of the latest technological advances and by sharing clinical experiences. The Medical Imaging Society is dedicated not only to the education of its members but also feels an obligation to share what is learned and offer support to the community.

The 2002-2003 academic year continued to be a productive one for members of the Medical Imaging Society. The students participated in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, an annual walk held at Jones Beach, and raised money to support breast cancer research. At Thanksgiving, the students raised enough money to feed over 168 homeless people through the Bowery Mission. In the fall of 2002 and spring of 2003, members of the Medical Imaging Society rolled up their sleeves and donated blood during the Campus-sponsored drive to help the Long Island Blood Services. Their charitable work continues as they are collecting food for Long Island Harvest.

C.W. Post Professional Nurses Association

The C.W. Post Professional Nurses Association is pleased to announce its reactivation. The purpose of this organization is to promote professional interaction among its members and provide support to the C.W. Post community and the community-at-large. We look forward to providing educational programs and activities throughout the community. On April 21 and 22, 2003 we held two welcoming parties to inaugurate the association. The current presidents are Robert deVente and Christine Haufmann. Our vice president is Diane Feil, secretary, Maria DeMarinis Smilios, and treasurer is Elana Angarskaya. We look ahead to an active and productive professional nurses association.

Health Information Management Program Club

The faculty and students of the Health Information Management Program are looking forward to resuming the HIM Club in the Fall 2003 semester. The intent of the club is to enrich the experiences of students by providing additional professional activities and networking resources.
