Are you concerned about global warming? Do you have an interest in recycling and saving energy? Are you concerned about air pollution and traffic congestion? Is your goal to work for a socially responsible company that shares your passion for the environment?

Beginning in Fall 2009, the C.W. Post Honors and Merit Fellowship Program will offer a unique opportunity for 30 freshman to participate in "Honors Green," a series of courses grounded in environmental awareness and focused on preparing you for careers committed to a green future.

If you are committed to putting the Earth First, then this new Honors education program is for you.

Curriculum

Students entering as Honors freshman take 10 credits per semester (Fall 2009 Semester and Spring 2010 Semester).

All students are required to take Earth and Environmental Science Lab (4 credits) each semester along with two of the following for a total of three credit each term:

* English Composition with World Literature with a focus on man's relationship to the environment (3 credits)

* Western Philosophy with a focus on the philosophy of nature (3 credits)

* Human Geography (3 credits)

* Film and Society: Addressing Issues of Sustainability (3 credits)

Plus...

• Scholarship Opportunities: Visit one of America's national parks through the National Collegiate Honors Council's "Partners in the Parks Program." This one-week experiential immersion takes honors students from around the country to Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Acadia, The Everglades or other pristine natural sites for an exciting wilderness adventure.



• Lectures: Once a month faculty and students will meet for an integrated symposium on issues that cross the disciplines with guest speakers from political science, business, education and the arts.



• Field Trips: Visit the Pine Barrens watershed, National Seafront and other nature preserves, waste treatment and recycling plants as well as local businesses.



• Internships: Following freshman year, students participate in an internship on Long Island that will turn their core environmental education into practice. Placements might be in businesses, political offices, nature preserves, animal rescue organizations, farms, nurseries, fisheries or wineries.

Like other students in the Honors Program, Honors Green students will complete other academic requirements to graduate with an Honors diploma.
