Library of Congress Classification System & Stack Location Codes
There are four floors of book stacks (Levels 2-5), and the main
floor entrance places you on stack Level 4.

Getting Started:
- First check LIUCat for the call number and location.
Library of Congress call numbers
begin with a letter; e.g., E 882 .P48.
- Books you can take out are designated Main Circulation.
- Call Number charts are also posted in the stacks.
Helpful hints:
- Pick up a copy of this guide at the Reference Desk,
or look for the location chartss displayed on each stack level.
- Don't hunt in the dark! Turn on the light switches at the ends of each stack.
- Still can't find your book? Check the pre-shelving area on each stack level for books not yet shelved.
- For help in the stacks, use the telephones near the stairwells to call the Reference Desk at x2305.
- Study carrels are available on Level 4 and Level 5.
- Ask at Reference for books listed as Main Ref., IMC, Center for Business Research, or Library Science.
Checkout tips:
- Get a barcode on your ID card at
the Circulation Desk to check out books and use
library databases from home.
- Be sure to validate your barcode every Fall semester and also for Summer Sessions.
- Books circulate to students for 28 days and may be renewed.
- If the book you'd like is currently Checked Out, you can place a hold for it at the Circulation Desk.
When the book is returned, you will be notified.
Remember: Always ask a librarian if you need help finding books!
