Subway Opens in Hillwood Commons

Subway, the largest fast-food chain in the United States and the number one submarine sandwich business in the world, opened in Hillwood Commons on January 20, 2004—the first day of spring classes. The hours are Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Subway is a quick-serve restaurant that offers a wide variety of low-fat, low-calorie alternatives to typical fast-food fare, including its famous "7 under 6" low-fat, heart-healthy sandwich menu.

Subway’s new low-carb, Atkins®-friendly wraps offer dieters who can’t enjoy Subway’s traditional home-baked breads with a healthy yet carb-controlled sandwich option.

Subway is not included in a meal plan, however, students can pay cash or use their Dining Dollars at the restaurant. Dining Dollars are extra funds that students can use to pay for goods and services on campus.

Subway holds several outstanding awards including the 2002 "Gold Award" in Restaurants & Institutions "Choice in Chains" for best sandwich and bread, and the 2001 "MenuMasters Award" for "Best Menu/Line Extension" from Nation’s Restaurant News for the Subway Selects gourmet sandwiches.

Nearby, students can now relax and study in a comfortably furnished gazebo and soon they also will be able to go down the hall for a cup of coffee at a snack bar. Downstairs, the Periodicals Department has also undergone a major renovation.
