POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Academic & Career Counselor will oversee the successful delivery of academic and career counseling, graduation planning, and the monitoring of progress toward the bachelor’s degree. The Counselor will look at students holistically to facilitate access to services and resources and to encourage student engagement in the life of the campus; Collect and analyze admissions data to more effectively engage students prior to the start of first-semester; Assist students in understanding the educational context within which they are enrolled e.g. undeclared, honors, restricted, Program for Academic Success, HEOP, etc.; Plan or participate in events and/or programs, including, but not limited to, orientation, College 101, student success and career workshops, mentoring (e.g. first-year/second-year/undeclared students), recruitment events, career fairs, etc., to engage and build rapport with all student populations; Responsible for providing comprehensive academic and career counseling to students from pre-admission through graduation. Such activities may include, but are not limited to, engaging students in academic and career planning, assessment, and assisting students in the development of an individualized plan of success that address their interests, skills and abilities; Provide guidance to students about programs and courses specific to their major and/or interests and advise on issues related to academic achievement; Assist student in cover letter, resume and interview preparation and developing strategies for an effective job search; Educate and refer students to educational, institutional and community resources and services e.g. internships, cooperative education, study abroad, honors, tutoring/learning support, health and wellness counseling, international student services, faculty and student mentoring, graduate and professional school studies etc.; Evaluate and monitor student academic progress (degree audit) and the impact on the individualized plan of success (achievement of academic, professional and personal goals). Identify conditions that may positively or negatively influence student academic achievement and propose interventions; Gather and analyze data from various sources, including but not limited to, PeopleSoft, Student Progress Reports, Mid-Semester Evaluations, and feedback from faculty and staff. Identify at-risk students and propose interventions; Maintain and update accurate student records (electronic and hardcopy), including notes from each interaction with the student; Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director

QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology or a related field; Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft and related data-based systems; Ability to initiate outreach to students, faculty, staff and other campus consultants; Commitment to individual professional development; Requires self-motivation and extreme attention to detail; Must be personable and have a positive outlook; Must be flexible; Must be able relate to and connect with students; Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.

Associate Director of Financial Assistance for Counseling

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Associate Director of Financial Assistance for Counseling is responsible for the management and supervision of the Office of Financial Assistance counseling staff. This individual is expected to assist in the Enrollment Services Division’s goals of enhancing student recruitment and retention and to help ensure that the department functions as a student resource for providing information regarding their financial assistance. Reporting to the Director of Financial Assistance, the Associate Director will primarily be responsible for the following but is not limited to:
• Participate in all supervisory aspects of the Financial Assistance Office.
• Oversee and participate in all aspects of Undergraduate and Graduate Team Packaging that includes a designated selection of C.W. Post undergraduate students.
• Assist in counseling prospective students and families during enrollment services events.
• Work with the Director to formulate packaging strategies and budgetary issues.
• Maintain Policy and Procedures Manual.
• Prepare weekly Tracking Reports on special projects.
• Work with Public Relations to update all printed publications and coordinate updating the appropriate websites related to Financial Assistance.
• Oversee the Financial Assistance Calling program for new freshman and transfer students each year.
• Participate on the Financial Aid Review Committee to evaluate requests for aid waivers.
• Administer the APTS program, Nassau and Suffolk County Reduction Discount Scholarships Programs.
• Coordinate the College Work Study and America Reads Programs.
• Conduct financial aid seminars on campus and represent the office at departmental open houses and at campus meetings as well as off campus events.
• Provide financial aid counseling staff with continued training on new regulations, award processing methods and other module cross training in utilizing the PeopleSoft Financial Aid Module.
• Interview new applicants for positions in the office.
• Cover for counselors who are out of the office due to illness, vacations, or vacancies, until a replacement is found and trained.
• Arrange work and vacation schedules and coverage for special events.
• In addition, the Associate Director serves as a member of the Financial Assistance Office Cabinet

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Conduct financial aid seminars on campus and represent the office at departmental open houses and at campus meetings.
• Provide support staff with continued training on new regulations, award processing methods and other module cross training in utilizing the PeopleSoft Financial Aid Module.
• Monitor the review and satisfaction of authorization and disbursement reports.
• Interview new applicants for positions in the office.

Assistant Vice President for Employee Relations

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Human Resources: Long Island University seeks a seasoned Human Resources professional for the position of Assistant Vice President for Employee Relations. The AVP will be based at the University’s central offices in Brookville, NY and will be charged with overseeing all aspects of employee relations services for a diverse academic community with a highly unionized workforce, including faculty unions. Under the direct supervision of the Vice President for Human Resources, and working closely with the Vice President for Legal Services/University Counsel and the other University Officers, the AVP will provide consultation, training, and guidance to employees and/or supervisors; assist in the disciplinary process; administer the staff grievance process; create and / or interpret policies related to employment; provide guidance within the framework of University policies, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable laws; administer the unemployment insurance process; manage the employee assistance program; and provide guidance on selected collective bargaining issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate degree; extensive experience/demonstrated expertise in employee
relations within the structure of a human resources division; experience in a
large, complex organization; experience in a collective bargaining environment;
strong background in coaching, facilitations, and conflict resolution; and
outstanding communication skills.

Chemical Hygiene Officer

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
• Fulfill role of campus Chemical Hygiene Officer:
o Oversee implementation and management of campus-wide Chemical Hygiene Plan
o Organize chemical safety training
o Work with departments and individual researchers to develop procedures for activities that involve hazardous materials
• Additional duties to include the following responsibilities for the academic departments but are not limited to:
o Manage chemical inventory database
o Ensure applicable Material Safety Data Sheets are accessible
o Conduct on-site safety inspections of equipment and facilities and ensure compliance with various regulations
o Assist in the selection and implementation of safety equipment, includes but not limited to: eyewash stations, personal protective equipment, flammable cabinets, etc.
o Conduct indoor air quality assessments, schedule testing, address employee concerns and if necessary coordinate remediation
o Assist in the implementation and maintenance of written health and safety programs, policies and procedures
o Assist in the coordination of all applicable health and safety training programs
o Act as a liaison for site visits with governmental agencies
o Keep apprised of all applicable health and safety regulations
o Interact with affected academic personnel (i.e. Lab Managers, Faculty and Staff) as needed
o Other duties as directed by the Director of Facilities Services and the Environmental, Safety and Health Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in a chemically-related science or environmental health and safety; Master’s degree and CHO certification through NRCC are preferred; Experience as a CHO or in chemical safety with familiarity with relevant EPA, OSHA and other applicable local, state and federal regulations are necessities; Must possess excellent writing, computer and communication skills. The position calls for accuracy and attention to detail; Must be a self-starter with initiative and the ability to work effectively within the levels of the University; Ability to train others in safety requirements, regulations and procedures.

Assistant Professor of Psychology-Tenure Track Position
C.W. Post Campus

The Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program at LIU/CW Post Campus invites applications for a tenure-track position to begin September 2010. Our APA-accredited program leading to the PsyD degree adheres to the practitioner-scholar model. The program provides its students with clinical and theoretical training in cognitive-behavioral and psychoanalytic orientations. The successful candidate will be expected to initiate or maintain an active, externally-funded research program and to contribute to graduate education.

Responsibilities for this position will include (but are not limited to) teaching courses at the doctoral level, supervision of dissertations, mentoring of students, and clinical supervision of student therapists in our on-site training clinic. Assistant Director – Undergraduate Admissions

Job Duties: This position has a primary focus on new student (first-time to college and transfer) recruitment and admissions counseling. It incorporates a full range of admissions responsibilities including: establishing and strengthening a recruitment territory, representing the University to secondary school counselors, prospective students and family members, evaluating admissions applications, and contributing to the planning and implementation of admissions projects and activities.

Principal Responsibilities

• The candidate will represent the Brooklyn Campus’ on-campus programs at fairs, open houses, and other interested individuals and other recruitment events; overnight and long-term travel will be required.
• Participate in developing and implementing strategic enrollment goals for freshmen and transfer student enrollment.
• Present to small or large groups; conduct student interviews; provide information and guidance to prospective students and their families.
• Assist with various marketing activities, applicant file evaluation (including secondary school, GED, and college transcripts), and a variety of administrative activities as assigned.
• Serve as a liaison between the Office of Admissions, Academic Program Coordinators, and the community.
• Maintain a high level of customer service through contacts with prospective and current students; act as student agent, adviser, and advocate from pre-enrollment through students’ first-year at LIU.
• Analyze effectiveness of recruitment activities and report on these activities to the Director of UG Admissions and the Dean of Admission.
• Promote and maintain favorable relationships with guidance counselors and other influencers of the admissions process.
• Represent the Brooklyn Campus during on-campus programs, open houses, and other recruitment events.
• Willingness to learn, adapt, and engage in professional development to assist with personal enlightenment, and, in return, contribute to a “best-practices” office.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s preferred; 3-5 year’s experience in college admissions, recruitment or marketing; familiarity and understanding for educational systems; student development and/or counseling experience. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong customer service skills and experience; understanding of the dynamic modes of communication with students and parents (i.e. use of technology and social networking vs. traditional use of email, phone campaigns and letter campaigns.). Ability to handle multiple assignments and responsibilities at the same time; ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment and with diverse populations; ability and willingness to travel, in some cases, overnight for long periods of time. This position requires valid driver’s license.
