POSITION
DESCRIPTION:
The Academic & Career Counselor will oversee the successful
delivery of academic and career counseling, graduation planning,
and the monitoring of progress toward the bachelor’s degree.
The Counselor will look at students holistically to facilitate
access to services and resources and to encourage student engagement
in the life of the campus; Collect and analyze admissions data
to more effectively engage students prior to the start of first-semester;
Assist students in understanding the educational context within
which they are enrolled e.g. undeclared, honors, restricted,
Program for Academic Success, HEOP, etc.; Plan or participate
in events and/or programs, including, but not limited to, orientation,
College 101, student success and career workshops, mentoring
(e.g. first-year/second-year/undeclared students), recruitment
events, career fairs, etc., to engage and build rapport with
all student populations; Responsible for providing comprehensive
academic and career counseling to students from pre-admission
through graduation. Such activities may include, but are not
limited to, engaging students in academic and career planning,
assessment, and assisting students in the development of an
individualized plan of success that address their interests,
skills and abilities; Provide guidance to students about programs
and courses specific to their major and/or interests and advise
on issues related to academic achievement; Assist student in
cover letter, resume and interview preparation and developing
strategies for an effective job search; Educate and refer students
to educational, institutional and community resources and services
e.g. internships, cooperative education, study abroad, honors,
tutoring/learning support, health and wellness counseling, international
student services, faculty and student mentoring, graduate and
professional school studies etc.; Evaluate and monitor student
academic progress (degree audit) and the impact on the individualized
plan of success (achievement of academic, professional and personal
goals). Identify conditions that may positively or negatively
influence student academic achievement and propose interventions;
Gather and analyze data from various sources, including but
not limited to, PeopleSoft, Student Progress Reports, Mid-Semester
Evaluations, and feedback from faculty and staff. Identify at-risk
students and propose interventions; Maintain and update accurate
student records (electronic and hardcopy), including notes from
each interaction with the student; Additional responsibilities
as assigned by the Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology or a related
field; Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft and
related data-based systems; Ability to initiate outreach to
students, faculty, staff and other campus consultants; Commitment
to individual professional development; Requires self-motivation
and extreme attention to detail; Must be personable and have
a positive outlook; Must be flexible; Must be able relate to

The Associate Director of Financial Assistance for Counseling
is responsible for the management and supervision of the Office

• Work with Public Relations to update all printed publications
and coordinate updating the appropriate websites related to
Financial Assistance.
• Oversee the Financial Assistance Calling program for new freshman
and transfer students each year.
• Participate on the Financial Aid Review Committee to evaluate
requests for aid waivers.
• Administer the APTS program, Nassau and Suffolk County Reduction
Discount Scholarships Programs.
• Coordinate the College Work Study and America Reads Programs.
• Conduct financial aid seminars on campus and represent the
office at departmental open houses and at campus meetings as
well as off campus events.
• Provide financial aid counseling staff with continued training
on new regulations, award processing methods and other module
cross training in utilizing the PeopleSoft Financial Aid Module.
• Interview new applicants for positions in the office.
• Cover for counselors who are out of the office due to illness,
vacations, or vacancies, until a replacement is found and trained.
• Arrange work and vacation schedules and coverage for special
events.
• In addition, the Associate Director serves as a member of
the Financial Assistance Office Cabinet

Human Resources: Long Island University seeks a seasoned Human
Resources professional for the position of Assistant Vice President
for Employee Relations. The AVP will be based at the University’s
central offices in Brookville, NY and will be charged with overseeing
all aspects of employee relations services for a diverse academic
community with a highly unionized workforce, including faculty
unions. Under the direct supervision of the Vice President for
Human Resources, and working closely with the Vice President
for Legal Services/University Counsel and the other University
Officers, the AVP will provide consultation, training, and guidance
to employees and/or supervisors; assist in the disciplinary
process; administer the staff grievance process; create and
/ or interpret policies related to employment; provide guidance
within the framework of University policies, collective bargaining
agreements, and applicable laws; administer the unemployment
insurance process; manage the employee assistance program; and
provide guidance on selected collective bargaining issues.

Graduate degree; extensive experience/demonstrated expertise
in employee
relations within the structure of a human resources division;
experience in a
large, complex organization; experience in a collective bargaining

• Fulfill role of campus Chemical Hygiene Officer:
o Oversee implementation and management of campus-wide Chemical
Hygiene Plan
o Organize chemical safety training
o Work with departments and individual researchers to develop

excellent writing, computer and communication skills. The position

Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program at LIU/CW Post Campus invites

adheres to the practitioner-scholar model. The program provides

• The
