How
can my student decide on a career goal?
|
Students
can make an appointment to see a PEP career counselor
by calling our office. Career counselors often use career
assessment tests along with counseling to help guide
the student.
There are also some excellent websites that can help:
Career

O-Net

Can I Do With a Major In
Experience
is the best teacher. The
co-op program will enable your student to "try
out" various career paths through part-time internships
(paid and non paid). Opportunities abound and these
experiences strengthen their ability to make informed
career decisions.

How
can my student get a job on-campus?
|
On-campus
jobs are listed in the PEP Office.
There are two categories of on-campus jobs - "work-study"
and "budget".
Only students eligible to receive work-study funding
as part of their financial aid package can apply for
work study jobs. Anyone can apply for "budget "
jobs but they are harder to get because there are fewer
of them. Most jobs on-campus are considered "work-study".

What
is the job market like in my student's field?
While
the economy is unpredicatable, there are certain fields
where job potential is greater due to workforce shortages
or growth in a particular industry. This information
is readily available from the Bureau of Labor Statistics
and is calculated by regions of the country. Other
sources include the Occupational
Outlook Handbook, Career
Zone , O*NET
and NACE.
