New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, representing the
8th District that includes the Town of Hempstead and
Town of Oyster Bay in the County of Nassau and the Town of Babylon
in the County of Suffolk, has sponsored a $25,000 grant, which
has enabled the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in
Brookville to build a computerized smart classroom in Pell Hall.
This new technology allows professors to share information electronically
with their students via laptops, internet connections and an
overhead projection screen.
"It is imperative that colleges stay abreast of technology,"
said Senator Fuschillo "This grant will improve students'
computer skills and will allow them better access to a quality
education."
C.W. Post is committing more than $1.5 million upgrading
technology on campus. Every dorm room in the residence halls
is outfitted with free Internet access and there are now 21
smart classrooms throughout campus. A new computerized music
laboratory and computer science lab were recently constructed.
Other improvements include upgrading the current Internet
access speed from 3 megabytes to 9 megabytes per seconds.
