| July 26, 2001 - The Post Theatre Company, an award-winning
student theatrical troupe based at the C.W. Post Campus of Long
Island University in Brookville, NY, will present Gene Learners
"Berlin to Broadway" from August 10 to August 12,
2001.
The production explores Kurt Weill's journey from the dark
days of Pre-World War II Germany to the hope and promise of
the 1950s American Dream. From death to rebirth, from
isolation to community, "Berlin to Broadway" chronicles
the making of an American as this extraordinary composer discovers
the diversity and rich music of his new homeland, and contributes
his classical European training and his love of the Music
Hall.
Audiences will rediscover such beloved old favorites as "September
Song" and "Mack the Knife" and thrill to the jazzy harmonies
of Street Scene and Lost in the Stars. Featured in this musical
odyssey are local Post Theatre Company members including Debra
Bieler of Hauppauge, Jennifer Cintron and Reynold Hewitt of
Wantagh, Heather Vernesie from Lindenhurst and alumnus Michael
Baker. The show is directed by C.W. Post Theatre Professor
Cara Gargano of Manhattan with musical direction by James
Cottone of Babylon.
Performances are at the air-conditioned Hillwood Recital
Hall, home of Tilles Center's glamorous "Club T". Tickets
for all productions can be reserved or purchased at the door.
