The C.W. Post/Long Island University Tax & Accounting Institute Presents Seminars for Tax and Accounting Professionals
 

July 10, 2001 — The Tax & Accounting Institute, located at the School of Professional Accountancy on the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, will conduct a full week of intensive tax seminars July 30 - August 3, 2001. Featured speaker: George M. Schain, J.D. Seminars to be held at Tilles Center, Room WI, on the C.W. Post Campus of L.I.U., 720 Northern Blvd. (Route 25A), Brookville, NY.

All seminars run 9 a.m. to 5:05 p.m. daily with registration beginning at 8:15 a.m. Registration for each seminar (which includes a continental breakfast and buffet luncheon) is $125 for members of the Institute and $150 for non-members. Monday, July 30 — Federal Estate and Gift Tax Level I. Topics: New developments, Introduction to estate and gift taxation, Hands-on analysis of hypothetical cases (Estate Form 706 & Gift Form 709), Valuation (including closely-held stock), Estate and gift tax procedure and law.

Tuesday, July 31 — Federal Estate and Gift Level II. Topics: Update on estate and gift tax law, Tax consequences of lifetime transfers within three years of death, Retained life estates, Revocable transfers, Transfers taking effect at death, Annuities, Life insurance, Power of appointment, Marital deduction, Charitable deduction, Administration and funeral expenses, Debts, mortgages and liens.

Wednesday, August 1 — Estate Planning Techniques. Topics: Planning under new laws, Grantor trusts, Net gifts, Alternate valuation, Disclaimers, Double deductions, Joint returns, Estate and Gift tax, Marital deduction, Qualified Terminable Interest Property (QTIP), Pre-Mortem, Mortem and Post Mortem planning and procedure, Creation and/or expansion of an estate practice.

Thursday, August 2 — Tax and Non-Tax Aspects of Life Insurance. Topics: Definitions and terms, Contract requirements, Types of life insurance, Policy provisions, Annuities, Federal taxation of life insurance, Split Dollar Arrangements.

Friday, August 3 — Individual Income Tax Update for New Laws. Topics: New Developments, Rate Changes, Alternative Minimum Tax Revisions, Education Incentives, Capital Gains/Losses, Planning Opportunities.

 

GEORGE M. SCHAIN, J.D.

George M. Schain, J.D. is known for his entertaining style and practical approach. George Schain will show you how to apply current applicable tax laws to specific situations and give you helpful planning tips.

Mr. Schain, president of Schain Enterprises, Inc., is nationally recognized as one of the most knowledgeable and enthusiastic seminar leaders speaking on taxation today. He has lectured on federal income and estate and gift taxation planning, insurance and IRS procedure for 46 states, CPA societies, universities, bar associations, and other professional groups throughout the United States and has conducted many in-house training programs for major accounting firms and commercial banks and trust companies.

After graduating from New York University and receiving his Juris Doctorate degree from Fordham University School of Law, Mr. Schain continued to accumulate extensive professional experience in the field of taxation. He has been a tax project manger for the AICPA and a supervisor in the National Tax Training Department of Coopers & Lybrand, now known as PricewaterhouseCoopers. He has worked for the IRS as an appeals officer, revenue officer, district conferee, and estate tax attorney. Mr. Schain has also been a full-time professor of law at New York Law School (10 years) and Adjunct Professor of Law at Rutgers Law School and is a former adjunct faculty member of Fordham University Graduate School of Business. He is the creator of several tax publications and instructional cassette tapes, including The Ins and Outs of IRS Practice and Procedure, Practitioner's Guide to Life Insurance: Tax and Non-Tax Aspects (CCH), and Taxpayers Bill of Rights (CCH). He also wrote a tax column for the Taxation for Accountants, a national magazine, and authored the book, Estate, Gift, Trust, and Fiduciary Tax Returns: Planning and Preparation (West Group, 2001)
