| January 11, 2002 - Timedistanceinconveniencethese are just a few
of the real-life issues that can prevent adults from continuing their
education. To help remove some of these barriers, the School of Continuing
Education at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University is partnering
with Glen Cove High School to offer several courses on-site in Glen
Cove. Beginning in February, C.W. Post courses in English as a Second
Language (ESL) and personal financial management will be offered at
the high school. A selected number of graduate education courses will
also be held on site at Glen Cove High School.
New offerings include:
- "English as a Second Language" (ESL).
A 40-hour course that meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for
ten weeks, February 5 to April 18.
- "Financial Strategies for Successful Retirement."
A six-hour seminar that meets two Saturday mornings, February
23 and March 2.
- Graduate education courses, beginning January
22.
"The School of Continuing Studies offers non-credit courses
and seminars to help people make career changes, enhance their skills,
or open up new intellectual endeavors," explained Nishan Najarian,
Ph.D., University Dean, School of Continuing Studies. "There
are no prerequisites and no exams."
He added that this partnership with Glen Cove High School is a
first for the C.W. Post School of Continuing Studies. "Our
goal is to make education more accessible to working people in the
community," Dr. Najarian noted. "By partnering with Glen
Cove High School, we are able to extend our reach into the local
community."
Registration for the ESL course will take place in-person on Tuesday,
January 29, at 6 p.m. at Glen Cove High School, 150 Dosoris Lane,
Glen Cove. Registration for the financial seminar and education
