July 11, 2002 -- The Art & Antiques Program offered by the
School of Continuing Studies at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island
University has enriched the lives and careers of countless individuals
browsers and professionals alike. Art and antique aficionados
develop greater appreciation of and knowledge about their hobby;
dealers and collectors hone their skills and expertise. Students
may earn a Certificate in Art & Antiques by completing five
required and four elective courses, or they may choose to take only
the classes of interest to them.
Classes range from the fundamentals including Introduction
to Art & Antiques, Art History, and the Language of Style &
Ornament to an eclectic assortment of related courses in
ceramics, bronzes, antique furniture, clocks, glass and jewelry.
Students may learn more about art conservation, art forms of the
Far East, Japanese woodblock prints and landscape painting. Learn
the terminology to describe an object of art, the nomenclature of
furniture parts, and methods of determining authenticity of "original
prints," antique jewelry, and furniture from various periods
and regions of the world. Special seminars will cover Sports Memorabilia
and Establishing a Business.
The School of Continuing Studies at the C.W. Post Campus of Long
Island University hosts programs for adults of all ages who want
to start new careers, become more productive in their present careers
or just become more well-rounded by exploring new interests. Additional
programs include business and entrepreneurship, equine studies,
fundraising, personal computer studies, computer graphics and web
design, Windows 2000 Microsoft-certified systems engineer, certified
internet webmaster, continuing education for insurance professionals,
medical office billing, phlebotomy certificate, paralegal and legal
nurse, real estate, foreign language, English as a second language
(ESL), interior design, personal financial management, photography,
and writing.
Courses are tailor-made for busy adult students with offerings
during days, evenings and weekends, running from single session
workshops to semester-long programs. Classes in Art & Antiques
