On May 31, 2002 the Long Island Blood Services lost 25% (about
140,000 pints) of its yearly blood supply. Volunteer donors in Europe
(Euro blood) provided this blood. Due to FDA restrictions on donor
eligibility regarding "Mad Cow Disease", we will no longer
be able to import Euro blood. We must now become self sufficient
in meeting our needs for blood to help our family, friends and neighbors.
We need to collect about 1,200 pints of blood a day.
