Terrorism Prevention Strategies for Patrol Officers
 
C.W. Post Campus to Host Seminars for Police and other Law Enforcement Officials

On Tuesday, January 15, the C.W. Post Campus of Long island University hosted approximately 225 law enforcement officers for two anti-terrorism seminars sponsored by the Long Island Association of Crime Prevention Officers. The seminars were titled "First Response to Terrorism" (a FEMA Certificate Course) and "Practical Terrorism Prevention Strategies for Patrol Officers" (an advanced course for FEMA certificate graduates). Keynote addresses were offered by NYS Deputy Director of Public Security Louis Anemone and C.W. Post's own Professor Harvey Kushner.

Keynote speakers:

Louis Anemone, retired chief in the NYPD, (the city's highest ranking uniformed officer), was appointed in October 2001 to the position of initial Deputy Director of the New York State Office of Public Security, the agency now responsible for coordinating statewide counter-terrorism initiatives to prevent, detect, respond to and recover from terrorist acts.

In December 2001, Anemone was appointed Director of Security and Law Enforcement for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority overseeing security of Bridges, Tunnels and Public Transportation, including buses and railroads, throughout the Metropolitan area. Mr. Anemone continues to serve in a dual capacity, maintaining his role as Deputy Director of the NYS Office of Public Safety.

Dr. Harvey Kushner, world-renowned terrorism expert, Chairman of the C.W. Post Department of Criminal Justice and Security Administration. Author of The Future of Terrorism : Violence in the New Millennium and Terrorism in America : A Structured Approach to Understanding the Terrorist Threat.

"First Response to Terrorism" is a FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) Certificate Course and "Practical Terrorism Prevention Strategies for Patrol Officers" is an advanced course for individuals who have completed the FEMA certificate. The two seminars were offered simultaneously in Hillwood Commons on the C.W. Post Campus, 720 Northern Blvd. (Route 25A), Brookville, NY.
