Thinking about a Ph.D. in Information Studies but concerned about
how to accomplish that while you're working full time? No problem.
Long Island University's Palmer School of Library and Information
Science has the answer. The doctoral program at the C.W. Post Campus
in Brookville was designed to fit a working person's busy schedule.
The Palmer School of Library and Information Science will hold an
Open House for all prospective Ph.D. students on Saturday, November
9 from 12 to 2 p.m. in the Palmer School's Ph.D. Learning Center,
Room 330, on the second floor of the B. Davis Schwartz Memorial
Library at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, Route
25A (Northern Boulevard) in Brookville, NY.
The Palmer School's Ph.D. program in Information Studies is the
only one of its kind in the greater New York Metropolitan area.
It prepares individuals to assume leadership positions in research,
teaching, and in practice. Graduates of the program will be equipped
to fill a documented need for researchers and faculty members in
the broad field of information studies.
The Ph.D. in Information Studies utilizes a strong interdisciplinary
approach because solutions to the problems of organizing, storing,
and retrieving vast amounts of information require the combined
knowledge of computer scientists, management specialists, educators,
psychologists, librarians, and others. The program offers two main
areas of study - knowledge organization and access, and information
studies and services - and is structured to accommodate part-time
students who are already working in the information field or in
related professions.
The Palmer School encourages applications from minority groups and
is committed to equal-opportunity acceptance of candidates into
the program in order to offset the shortage of minorities in the
information professions. Applicants must hold a master's degree
in any discipline. The Palmer School of Library and Information
Science is part of C.W. Posts College of Information and Computer
Science.
The C.W. Post Campus is located at 720 Northern Blvd. (Route 25A),
Brookville, NY. For additional information contact Dr. Charles Hildreth,
Director of the Doctoral Program, at (516) 299-2178 or email hildreth@liu.edu.
