November11, 2002 A solar energy seminar will be held at
the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University on Monday, December
2, 2002 at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The
solar seminar is co-sponsored by the Institute for Sustainable Development
at Long Island University, Quad State Solar, and the Long Island
Power Authoritys Solar Pioneer Program. The presenter will
be Jonathan Lane, president of Quad State Solar.
The seminar will be educational in nature, helping Long Islanders
learn about clean solar technology, environmental benefits and available
rebate programs. It has been organized by the sponsors as part of
the "Long Island Solar Roofs Initiative," which is part
of the U.S. Department of Energys "Million Solar Roofs
Initiative." The federal program has a goal of one million
solar roofs nationwide by 2010; the "Long Island Solar Roofs
Initiative" has a goal of 10,000 solar roofs on Long Island
in the same timeframe.
"The purpose of the collaboration and seminar is to try to
make solar energy a reality on Long Island by removing barriers
and educating the public," said Professor Scott Carlin, co-director
of the Institute for Sustainable Development.
Admission is free but space is limited, therefore reservations are
suggested. The seminar will take place in the Great Hall in the
C.W. Post Campus Administration Building, 720 Northern Blvd. (Route
25A), in Brookville. For reservations or additional information,
call LIPA at (800) 692-2626 or register online at http://www.lipower.org/solar/workshops.html.
