C.W. Post Homecoming and Family Day Celebration

The C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville will celebrate its annual Homecoming and Family Day with carnival attractions, a traveling IMAX theater, petting zoo, clowns, and barbecue on Saturday, October 18. The football game kicks off at 1 p.m. at Hickox Field with the C.W. Post Pioneers football team playing against Bryant College. The public is invited to attend the Halloween-themed events.

The Fall Festival and Tailgate Tent Party from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. will feature festivities for all ages, including carnival attractions, a real petting zoo and inflatable games. The Tailgate Tent Party ticket ($15 for adults, $7 for children 8 and under) will include admission to the game and a barbecue meal ticket. The barbecue menu includes hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken, salads, warm apple cobbler, assorted cold drinks, and coffee, tea, hot cider, and hot chocolate.

Under the tent, clowns will paint faces of all ages and a magician will perform magic tricks. Alumni and current members of the Newman Club will be on hand with pumpkins ready to decorate for Halloween.

Immediately after the football game, all ticket-holders can try their skill at winning a new pick-up truck by successfully kicking a football (on the fly) 35 yards into a standard-size truck bed. If the ball stays in, the contestant wins the truck. Sign-up tables for the Terrific Truckbed Kick will be available throughout the day at the Tailgate Tent Party. Once Hickox Field is clear, the contest will begin.

At 8 p.m., alumni and other members of the C.W. Post community will meet at Grandstand Pub in Baldwin for "Bronktoberfest 2003." This event, sponsored by the C.W. Post Campus and the Hempstead Fire Department, is in honor of Durrell "Bronko" Pearsall, a Hempstead firefighter and C.W. Post alumnus who lost his life on September 11, 2001. Festivities will include a 50/50 raffle, entertainment, raffle prizes and other exciting activities. A $10 donation is requested at the door to help raise funds for the Durrell V. Pearsall Memorial Scholarship Fund at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.
