"Modern Uses of Hypnosis"
Jeffrey K. Zeig, Ph.D. to Deliver Public Lecture at C.W. Post
Monday, November 3, 2003 at 7 p.m.
Hypnosis, the induced state of altered consciousness,
is becoming increasingly popular as a tool in the treatment of many
conditions including phobia disorders, post-traumatic and dissociative
conditions, impulse problems, stress and self-esteem issues. In
addition, hypnosis is being employed in treatment programs for weight
loss, smoking cessation, enhancement of athletic performance, family
and marital counseling, sex therapy and more.
World renowned psychotherapist Jeffrey K. Zeig, Ph.D.,
founder and director of The Milton H. Erickson Foundation, will
present a public lecture titled "Modern Uses of Hypnosis"
at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University on Monday, November
3 at 7 p.m.
The Milton H. Erickson Foundation was founded by Dr.
Zeig to promote and advance the work of the late Milton H. Erickson,
M.D., a pioneer of medical hypnosis. Ericksons writings on
hypnosis are considered the authoritative word on techniques of
inducing trance, experimental work exploring the possibilities and
limits of the hypnotic experience, and investigations of the nature
of the relationship between hypnotist and subject.
Dr. Zeig has edited, co-edited, authored or been featured
in 18 professional books and five monographs covering Ericksonian
psychotherapy, hypnosis, brief therapy and eclectic psychotherapy.
He serves on the editorial boards of numerous journals and is a
Fellow of the American Psychological Association (Division 29, Psychotherapy),
Fellow and Approved Consultant for the American Society of Clinical
Hypnosis, and an Approved Supervisor of the American Association
for Marriage and Family Therapy. He conducts workshops in more than
30 countries and is a respected teacher of Ericksonian approaches.
The "Modern Uses of Hypnosis" lecture will
take place on Monday, November 3 at 7 p.m. in Room W-1 at Tilles
Center for the Performing Arts on the C.W. Post Campus, 720 Northern
Blvd. (Route 25A), Brookville. General admission is $10; admission
is free for C.W. Post students, faculty and staff with university
ID.
The event is co-sponsored by the C.W. Post Department
of Counseling and Development and the New York State Society of
