Adventure and Fun at Summer Day Camp

February 10, 2003 - From swimming and arts and crafts to computers and games, children ages 5 to 13 are invited to enjoy a summer filled with activities and fun on a beautiful college campus.

The Summer Day Camp at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, Northern Boulevard (Route 25A) in Brookville, offers one to seven week programs from June 30 through August 15.

The C.W. Post Campus offers unbeatable facilities and programs such as a new pool, sports facilities, playing fields and professional computer centers. "The amazing amenities and attractive campus definitely set C.W. Post apart from other camps," said Heidi Langdon, a mom of three from Bellmore whose children have attended the C.W. Post Summer Camp for the past four years.

The camp offers a well-rounded program of games, organized sports, swimming, music, dance, nature, and arts and crafts projects such as painting, drawing, weaving and puppetry. Activities include special "theme days" such as Halloween in August, Camp Carnival, Talent Show, Water Day and Camp Olympics.

"We offer exciting programs in a safe environment," said camp director Dorene Padula. "Our skilled and friendly staff ensures that all children have an unforgettable summer experience."

Students are grouped by age and ability: The Discovery Group Campers (children ages 5 to 7); the Adventure Group Campers (ages 8 to 9); the Explorer Group Campers (ages 10 to 13); and Counselor in Training-CIT (ages 12 to 16 - CITs receive a 25% discount off their tuition in their first year and a 35% discount thereafter).

Each camper group is supervised at all times by two camp counselors as well as adult teachers and specialists. All non-pool activities are staffed by licensed teachers. The pool is supervised by certified lifeguards. The ratio of staff to campers is 1 to 6.

An open house for parents and children interested in learning more about the C.W. Post Summer Day Camp will be held on Saturday, March 1 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon in the Winnick Student Center (lower level-Long Island Room) on the C.W. Post Campus.

The summer camp runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. An after-camp program is available from 3:30 to 6 p.m. each day for an additional fee of $60 per week. Tuition for the camp ranges from $305 for one week to $1,735 for the full seven weeks. A 15% tuition discount will be given to each additional child from the same family attending the camp. Included in tuition is a nutritious lunch and snacks.
