This special 40th Anniversary Celebration Gala Concert by Long
Island Youth Orchestra will honor Martin Dreiwitz and alumni from
Long Island Youth Orchestra, many of whom are members of major performing
organizations such as the New York City Opera, National Symphony,
New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, New York Ballet,
Toronto Symphony and Colorado Philharmonic. The concert will also
feature distinguished alumni such as Frank Moreli who is currently
the principal bassoonist of the New York City Opera Orchestra and
Robert Botti who is the 2nd oboist of the New York Philharmonic.
The concert will include music of Lalo, Tchaikovksy, Haydn, Schumann
and Virgil Thomson. Tchaikovskys "1812 Overture"
will combine alumni and current orchestra members in a grand finale.
Founded by Martin Dreiwitz 40 years ago, the Long Island Youth
Orchestra has over 2,000 alumni, many of whom are musically active
either as members of some of the nations top orchestras or
as teachers on Long Island and elsewhere. Others, who have gone
into other professions, nevertheless gained a lifelong appreciation
of great music through their exposure to the work of a wide variety
of composers during their years as orchestra members. Many also
took advantage of the opportunity to observe the cultures and life
styles of peoples around the world on one or more of the orchestras
32 successful overseas tours to every corner of the globe. Long
Island Youth Orchestras international concerts and tours have
been universally acclaimed and the orchestra has been praised by
world leaders for its contributions to international good will through
music.
Long Island Youth Orchestras 40th Anniversary Concert will
provide an opportunity for all alumni to participate. The concert
and the reception that follows will provide an opportunity for LIYO
alumni not only to listen to the exciting work of the present orchestra,
but also to renew contacts, old orchestra friends, and to give recognition
to the outstanding impact that the Long Island Youth Orchestra has
had on the lives of all of its members, past and present.
Alumni of the Long Island Youth Orchestra are encouraged to contact
the organization (www.liyo.org)
at 516-299-4093 or sedeav@earthlink.net
to help update the alumni contact information list.
