C.W. Post Now Offers Continuing
Education Courses
at Glen Cove High School
January 27, 2003 - Time, distance, inconvenience. There are just
a few of the real-life issues that can prevent adults from continuing
their education. To help remove some of these barriers, the Continuing
Education Division at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University
is partnering with Glen Cove City Schools to offer courses on-site
at Glen Cove High School on Dosoris Lane.
The continuing education classes, which begin in February, are geared
toward adult students who are looking to get ahead in their careers,
change jobs or learn about a new subject for personal enrichment.
Classes are conveniently offered in the evenings to accommodate
the schedules of working professionals, homemakers and retirees.
New offerings include:
- Medical Terminology - Wednesdays, February 19-April 9. Those
pursuing a career in medical
office billing learn important vocabulary in the medical field
and disease conditions.
- Starting a Home Based Medical Billing Service - Monday, March
24. With constant changes in health-care, many physicians have
opted to outsource their billing. Learn what it takes to start
your own medical billing business.
- CPT Coding for the Medical Office I - Tuesdays, June 10-July
22. Learn the basics of CPT coding, including proper use of Evaluation
and Management codes, Medical codes and Surgical Procedure codes.
- ICD-9-CM Coding for the Medical Office - Wednesday, April 23-June
4. Introduction to basic coding guidelines, principles and methods
used in physician's offices.
- Real Estate Closings - Mondays, March 24 and 31. Learn the methods
involved in real estate closings, including preparation and execution
of closing documents, escrow, fees, insurance, and interpreting
a title.
- Notary Public Seminar - Thursday, April 10. Prepare for the
state qualifying exam to become a notary public. This program
is approved by the NYS Association of Notaries Public.
- Making Your Money Work - Wednesdays, March 12-April 9. Gain
tools needed to identify and implement financial goals and objectives.
- Oriental Calligraphy & Painting - Wednesdays, April 2-30.
Hands-on program introduces students to the arts of calligraphy
and oriental painting.
- Music in the Western World - Wednesdays, March 5-26. Learn about
the Western musical system and the composers who made significant
contributions in classical music.
"The School of Continuing Studies offers non-credit courses
and seminars to help people make career changes, enhance their skills
or open up new intellectual endeavors," explained Dr. Pamela
Lennox, Associate Provost for Campus Services. She added that this
partnership with Glen Cove High School is a first for the C.W. Post
Continuing Education Division. "Our goal is to make education
more accessible to people in the community," Dr. Lennox said.
