Serving the Needs of Society
C.W. Post School of Public Service

April 25, 2003 - From affordable housing for the elderly to managing a large hospital, and from law enforcement to fraud investigation, the need for excellence in the field of public service has never been greater. A densely populated area such as Long Island, with 2.7 million residents, has a particularly high demand for skilled workers to serve the public’s interests and enhance their quality of life.

The School of Public Service at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville is one of few schools of its kind in the country that offer a comprehensive array of degree programs that prepare students for careers in government, criminal justice, public management, and health and human services.

C.W. Post’s School of Public Service encompasses three specialty areas: Criminal Justice, Health Care and Public Administration, and Social Work. Through a combination of bachelor’s, master’s and certificate programs, students engage in intense coursework, research and hands-on field experience.

The highly acclaimed Criminal Justice Program offers up-to-the-moment courses on computer crime, drug scenes and security law. All students participate in exciting internships where they gain real-world experience and exposure to the inner workings of the criminal justice system. Students choose from the bachelor’s degree or 5-year accelerated bachelor’s/master’s degree in criminal justice. The master’s program offers specializations in fraud examination and security administration.

The School of Public Service prepares students to step into jobs in health care management through courses in managed health care, medical ethics, hospital administration and more. Students can earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Health Care Administration or Public Administration (accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration.) A combined law degree and Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree through a joint program between C.W. Post and Touro Law Center is also offered. In addition, students can earn an advanced certificate in nonprofit management or gerontology or earn an MPA degree with a specialization in nonprofit management or gerontology.

The school’s Social Work program includes courses in areas such as human behavior, social welfare programs and policies, and ethnic-sensitive social work. The school offers a bachelor’s degree in Social Work (accredited by the Council on Social Work Education) as well as a minor in Social Work.

The School of Public Service is part of C.W. Post’s College of Management. For more information call 516-299-3017 or email cmanage@cwpost.liu.edu or visit www.liu.edu/com
