Art Auction to Benefit C.W. Post
Scholarship Fund
College of Management will present work of the masters at May 18
event
May 18, 2003 - Want to get a great discount on the
works of Rembrandt, Picasso or contemporary artists like Peter Max?
How about animation art and sports collectibles? Youll find
it all on Sunday, May 18 at an art auction to benefit scholarships
for students studying in the College of Management at the C.W. Post
Campus of Long Island University in Brookville. The event is sponsored
by C.W. Posts College of Management Alumni Chapter.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to purchase
incredible works of art and, in the process, help students earn
their college education," says Ronald Guggenheim, general chairperson
of the event and co-president of the College of Management Alumni
Chapter. He added that the art auction specifically benefits students
preparing for careers in accounting, business, criminal justice,
health care and public administration, and social work.
Guggenheim, who graduated from C.W. Post in 1972 and
now works as controller at Coldwell Banker in Manhattan, attended
an art auction last year while on a cruise. He thought it would
make an excellent fundraiser for the College of Management. So,
he contacted Park West Gallery in Michigan, the company that handled
the cruise auction. They provide the art, and the College of Management
provides the necessary staff-power to host the event, which will
be held in the Top of the Commons/Hillwood Commons on the C.W. Post
Campus. A reception and preview begins at 12 p.m. and the auction
begins at 1 p.m.
The event will feature more than 300 original works
by Chagall, Dali, Durer, Erte, Fanch, Goya, Krasnyansky, LeKniff,
Max, Miro, Mouly, Neiman, Picasso, Rembrandt and Schluss. Animation
art from Disney, Warner Bros. and Hanna-Barbera will also be on
display, as will various sports memorabilia. Styles range from traditional
to modern and from oil paintings to watercolors. Each work is framed
and catalogued, and comes with a registered certificate of authenticity.
The College of Management Scholarship Fund assists
undergraduates and graduate students who are selected for scholarships
based on need and achievement. Guggenheim says he hopes to raise
between $5,000 and $10,000 at the art auction.
The public is invited to attend the auction. Admission
is free and includes a complimentary catalog and wine and cheese.
