Randall Baker Recognized with
C.W. Post Distinguished Alumni Award
May 5, 2003 - Randall P. Baker has been increasingly
active in the computer industry since his graduation from the C.W.
Post Campus of Long Island University (Brookville, New York) more
than 30 years ago. He graduated cum laude with a B.A. in psychology
in 1966 and immediately went to work with IBM Corporation, where
he was involved with software development and systems engineering.
His long and impressive career includes time at IBM and Oracle Corporation,
and in recognition of his great success, the C.W. Post Campus will
honor him with a Distinguished Alumni Award at its 45th annual commencement
ceremonies on May 11, 2003.
During his 17 years at IBM, Baker was consistently
promoted and rewarded for outstanding contributions, and graduated
from IBMs Research Institute as well as its Presidents
Class at Harvard University. In 1983, Baker joined Tandem Computers
and later was promoted to vice president for worldwide customer
support. Ten years later, he became a vice president at Oracle Corporation,
the worlds second largest independent software developer.
At Oracle, Baker was responsible for direct support
operations and a staff of more than 6,300 technical employees in
90 countries that serviced more than 200,000 customers. He grew
support revenue ten-fold to $2.8 billion and was a major contributor
to Oracles profits. In addition, he was credited with boosting
Oracles customer and employee satisfaction to an all-time
high.
In 2000, Baker, then an executive vice president for
worldwide support and officer of Oracle, retired. He continues to
receive many awards for professional service and has remained very
involved with the high-tech industry. Today, he serves as a director
of Modernsoft, creator of the "Financial Genome" business
modeling structure, and on the advisory board of Mobile Airwaves,
Inc., developer of the "Aquivo" wireless information server.
Baker also is active in the community, serving on the boards of
several non-profit organizations in California.
Baker is a resident of Atherton, California.
