Valedictorian David Courtemanche, a finance major from Huntington, NY.


Ian Smart displays his #45 New York Jets jersey. Hailed as the "best touchdown-maker college football has ever known," Smart graduated from C.W. Post in January 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and was recognized at the graduation ceremony. Smart, 23 of North Babylon, signed a three-year contract with the Jets on May 3, 2003 as a running back and kick returner.


Mary Lai (left), Long Island University’s Vice President for Finance and Treasurer, received special recognition at the ceremony. Mrs. Lai, a 1942 graduate of Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus, is retiring as chief financial officer after 57 years of service to the university. Here she is pictured with Dr. Pamela Lennox, C.W. Post’s Associate Provost for Campus Services.

Salutatorian Gina M. Gencarelli, a film major from Mohegan Lake, NY served as the Undergraduate Symbol Degree Recipient for the School of Visual and Performing Arts.


Four years ago, Christie Cooke, Luauna Nez, Wendolyn Begay left their Navajo reservation in Arizona together to experience a New York college education. On May 11 they graduated ready for three different career paths: a master’s degree program in creative writing for Cooke, graduate school for literacy teachers for Nez, and medical school for Begay.


Joseph Shenker, Provost of the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, presides over the 45th annual commencement exercises.


Gina and Ilene LoCastro of East Meadow, NY celebrate Mother’s Day as new C.W. Post graduates. Mom Ilene earned a master’s degree in school counseling; daughter Gina was awarded a bachelor of science in elementary education.
