Plainview Resident Transfers to C.W. Post and Lands Plum Internship at Merrill Lynch

January 15, 2003 - "When I graduated from high school I really wasn't sure what I wanted out of college, what I wanted to do," says Plainview resident Steven Burke, 21. "So I went to Nassau Community College to see what it was all about. I took some business courses and decided that I like finance. When it was time to transfer I chose the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville because it was close to home and it has an excellent business program."

C.W. Post College of Management business degree programs are accredited by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the world's leading business school accrediting organization.

In September 2002, about a week after he began his first classes in the elite business program at C.W. Post, Burke visited the Professional Experience and Career Planning (PEP) office at the college. The department's advisors helped him land an internship at Merrill Lynch in Great Neck.

"You learn a lot in a real working environment," says Burke, adding that he's optimistic about landing a job through the PEP office after graduation.

Burke, now a junior majoring in finance, credits some of his success to C.W. Post's community college transfer programs. Students who enroll first in a local community college - including Nassau, Suffolk County and LaGuardia community colleges - are assured, through C.W. Post's Joint Admission Programs, automatic admission and guaranteed transfer of all their credits.

Students who transfer to C.W. Post - from Long Island community colleges or from other universities - have access to more than 100 bachelor's degree programs, which are enriched by state-of-the-art technology. The school offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate programs in accountancy, business, computer science, education, health professions and nursing, liberal arts and sciences, library and information science, public service, and visual and performing arts.
