C.W. Post and Queensborough Community
College Sign Transfer Agreement
June 20, 2003 -- To make transferring to a four-year
private university as convenient as possible, the C.W. Post Campus
of Long Island University and Queensborough Community College (QCC)
recently signed a Transfer Agreement to provide an opportunity for
students who are admitted to QCC to transfer to the C.W. Post Campus
in Brookville without loss of course credits. The program also allows
students to earn both a QCC associates degree and C.W. Post
bachelors degree within four years.
Under the new agreement, eligible students must hold
an associates degree from QCC to continue their education
at C.W. Post and will have junior year status upon registering at
C.W. Post.
"This new transfer program will allow associate's
degree graduates of Queensborough Community College to maintain
the momentum of their education as they continue on to the bachelor's
degree level," said Gary Bergman, C.W. Posts Associate
Provost for Enrollment Services. "We've developed a seamless
process that employs all the advantages of earning an associate's
degree and a bachelor's degree from two of the areas finest
schools."
The program gives QCC students many benefits, such
as priority for on-campus housing at C.W. Post. Upon acceptance
to the transfer program, students can immediately obtain a C.W.
Post photo identification card, which allows them access to the
C.W. Post library and computer laboratories, as well as to campus
events and programs. Representatives of C.W. Post will also meet
with QCC students on a regular basis to provide information on C.W.
Post curriculum, financial aid and scholarships.
Applicants to the program must be first-time, matriculated
freshmen or currently matriculated QCC students with fewer than
24 credits studying business administration, computer information
systems, liberal arts/humanities, mathematics and science, nursing,
fine and performing arts, and digital art and design. Other QCC
academic programs majors will be added to the program later, and
interested students should check if their majors have become comparable
at both institutions.
Scholarship assistance is automatically available
to QCC students transferring with a 3.0 or better grade point average,
ranging from $3,000-$12,000 a year depending on academic standing.
An award of $100 per credit hour is available to part-time students
taking between 3-11 credits per semester who maintain a 3.5 GPA
or higher. Full-time honors students, with an overall 3.75 GPA or
higher, will earn a $1,000 annual honors scholarship, in addition
to any other awards.
