| January 22, 2003 - On Friday, February 28, 2003 more than
300 parents, educators, social workers and school administrators will
attend the Long Island Parent Education Network's Ninth Annual Conference
at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, Northern Boulevard
(Route 25A) in Brookville, New York. This year, the conference will
discuss two important topics: "Over-Tested, Over-Programmed,
Over-Stressed: Are Our Kids Nearing Meltdown?" and The Epidemic
Rise of Autism." At various workshops, parenting experts, psychologists
and educators will present issues related to the pressures of mandated
state and federal school tests. They will also examine intervention
programs and communication strategies necessary for the growing population
of autistic children.
Discussions and workshops will be led by several distinguished
panelists, including Maryanne Driscoll, Ph.D. of Touro College;
Alan Goldblatt, Physician's Assistant; Professor Arthur Cohen of
Target Consultants; Darelene Magito McLauglin, Ph.D. of Stony Brook
University Research & Training Center on Positive Behavior;
Marianne Esolen, C.S.W., Health Education Consultant; and Michael
Darcy, Director & Chief Clinical Officer of The Autism Help
Center.
The conference, co-sponsored by SCOPE NC Council of School Superintendents,
will take place in Hillwood Commons from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The fee is $100 per registrant; C.W. Post staff and students $50.
