C.W. Post Library Gets a New Look

C.W. Post's B. Davis Schwartz Memorial Library, a major research
library with access to 2.8 million volumes, is undergoing major
renovations this summer to create a new high-tech environment with
easier access to information and improved services for students.
The library has created a new reference area on the main level of
the library with two key departments: Information Commons
and the Center for Business and Information Resources.
The Information Commons is an ultra-modern reference library
for students conducting research using periodicals, books, databases,
handbooks, directories, encyclopedias and full-text database links
to electronic journals. The Information Commons has service desks
staffed by professional librarians and features 40 computers, laptop
connections and wireless internet access.
The Center for Business and Information Resources (which
includes the collections of C.W. Post's Center for Business Research
and Palmer Library Science Library) features one of the region's
most comprehensive collections of company information and is an
excellent resource for students and the public seeking information
on a wide range of business topics. The CBIR features a service
desk staffed by librarians who are business specialists as well
as two comfortable "gazebos" (octagonal shaped structures)
which are lounge areas designed for group study sessions and individual
quiet study. The CBIR is equipped with laptop internet connections
and wireless connectivity.
A coffee shop, Java City, will also open this September on the
main level of the library offering snacks and beverages for students
on the go.
The Periodicals Department on the lower level of the library has
also undergone a major renovation. A new service and information
desk, computers, furniture, microfilm area, work stations and a
quiet study area give students easy and comprehensive access to
journals, magazines, newspapers, databases and other publications.
