C.W. Post Unveils New Chemistry Labs

The C.W. Post Campus celebrated the grand opening of two renovated chemistry laboratories at a ceremony on September 29, 2004. Dr. Joan Shields, Chair of the Chemistry Department, along with Dr. Katherine Hill-Miller, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Dr. Joseph Shenker, Provost, were on hand to cut the ribbon.

Work on the labs, which are located in Rooms 301 and 307 on the third floor of Pell Hall, took place during the summer. The new facilities include lab benches, fume hoods, workstations and preparation areas for experiments. Each room can accommodate 20 students. The project also includes a new stock room for storing chemicals, ventilation and electrical upgrades and a preparation room for chemical solutions. The labs, which house General Chemistry, Foundations of Chemistry and the Honors Core Chemistry courses, are accessible to students with disabilities.

Funds for the chemistry labs were made possible by Pall Corporation, New York State Senator Carl Marcellino and a New York State bond.
