October 12, 2004 -- New York State Senator John J. Flanagan (2nd SD - East Northport) secured $25,000 in the New York State budget to benefit the Great Music Series at Tilles Center for the Performing Arts on the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. Senator Flanagan presented a check on October 12, 2004 to officials from the university who included Dr. David J. Steinberg, President of Long Island University; Roger Tilles, Chairman of the Board of Long Island University; Elliott Sroka, Executive Director of Tilles Center; and Jack Bransfield, Chairman of Tilles Center Council of Overseers.
This follows a $25,000 appropriation obtained last year by Senator Flanagan to support this highly regarded music program. The three-part classical concert series, comprised of concerto, orchestral variations and grand duo, brings to Long Island such international attractions as the New York Philharmonic, the Orchestre National de France, the China Philharmonic and the great orchestral ensembles of Europe and Russia. In addition, this series features outstanding soloists like violinist Joshua Bell and pianist Andre Watts.
Senator Flanagan, a recognized champion of the arts in New York State, represents the 2nd District, which follows western Suffolk's North Shore from Huntington to Port Jefferson.
