C.W. Post Football Player Signs with Philadelphia Eagles

April 29, 2004 -- Wide receiver/kick returner Jeremiah Pope was signed earlier this week by the Philadelphia Eagles to a three-year free agent contract and will take part in the team’s mini-camp this weekend.

Pope, who completed his football career with C.W. Post as the career and single-season leader for receptions, also ranked among the top return men in Division II by returning four kickoffs and two punts among his 26 career scores.

The Elmont, NY native caught 65 passes for 1,118 yards last season, becoming only the second Pioneer ever to break the 1,000-yard mark for receptions. He also showed his versatility by finishing third on the team in rushing with 278 yards on 31 carries.

C.W. Post head coach Bryan Collins stated, "We're happy for Jeremiah and wish him the best of luck. Having seen him compete for the past four years, I know he has the skills to make it. His signing is yet another indication of the continuing success and development of our program."

The signing marks the second consecutive year that a C.W. Post player has signed with a National Football League team, the last being running back Ian Smart, who was resigned earlier this year by the New York Jets after competing in the team’s 2003 training camp. Smart is currently playing for the Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe.
