C.W. Post Social Work Program
hosts the
Symposium on Cultural Competence
and Working with the Latino Population

On Friday, January 30, 2004, more than 100 social work professionals and others attended the Symposium on Cultural Competence and Working with the Latino Population at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, NY. The conference was designed to elevate social workers’ understanding of the cultural needs of Latino populations. The event included a keynote address by Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi, a panel discussion by distinguished guests, and three sets of workshops. The day-long symposium was sponsored by the C.W. Post Social Work Program; the Nassau County Coordinating Agency for Spanish Americans (CASA); and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) – New York State Chapter, Nassau County Division.
