Two Grand Honors for C.W. Post
Professor Greg Hunter
September
1, 2004 - Brookville, NY - A professor at the C.W. Post Campus of
Long Island University has been elected a Fellow of the Society
of American Archivists (SAA), an honor held by just five percent
of the organizations more than 3,750 members. Dr. Gregory
S. Hunter of Mineola, NY was named to the prestigious post at the
Society of American Archivists annual meeting, which was held in
August 2004 at the Boston Park Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts. More
than 1,400 members from across the country and around the world
attended.
The distinguished appointment comes on the heels of other exciting
news for Dr. Hunter. His latest book, Developing and Maintaining
Practical Archives, Second Edition (Neal Schuman, 2003), was selected
to receive SAAs Waldo Gifford Leland Award. That award was
also conferred at the annual meeting. According to SAA, the Waldo
Gifford Leland Award "rewards writing of superior excellence
and usefulness in the field of archival history, theory or practice."
Dr. Hunters previous book, Preserving Digital Information,
(2000), received SAAs Preservation Publication Award. "It
was an honor to be recognized by my friends and colleagues in SAA,"
said Dr. Hunter. "Archivists play an essential role in preserving
and making historical records available. I am pleased that my book
has helped make this possible."
Dr. Hunter is a Professor in the Palmer School of Library and Information
Science at C.W. Post. He holds a Ph.D. in American History from
New York University. He previously worked as Manager of Corporate
Records for ITT Corporation World Headquarters and as Director of
Archival Programs for the United Negro Fund. Dr. Hunter is both
a Certified Records Manager and a Certified Archivist. He served
as the first president of the Academy of Certified Archivists. He
is the author of seven books and will publish an eighth book titled
Records Management in 2005. Dr. Hunter serves as a consultant in
the areas of archives, records management, digital preservation,
electronic records, and organizational history, and speaks often
on these subjects.
