CONFRONTATION,

Celebrates the Work of New and Re-emerging Writers

September 13, 2004 - The works of new and re-emerging writers, including 21 short story writers and 27 poets, are featured in the new, Summer 2004 issue of CONFRONTATION magazine (#86/87), just released.

The issue, “CONFRONTATION: a Harvest of New & Emerging Writers,” is a celebration of new authors and those who have returned to publishing after a noticeable absence. Re-emerging writers Lucy Daniels and Diana Chang are among those featured. Writers publishing for the first time include Eric Jannazzo; well-published writers include Terry Stokes, Ann McGovern, Dan O’Brien, Claire Nicolas White, and Jay Rogoff. Among other works are those by an 81-year-old doctor, who on retirement “took up both novels and poetry” and two lyrical writers incarcerated in federal prisons. In the words of the editor, Martin Tucker, the new issue is a “heaping of varied colors and tones, a cornucopia of many courses for many tastes.”

Over its 30-plus years, CONFRONTATION has had work chosen for inclusion in The O’Henry Prize Stories, The Best American Short Stories, and the annual Pushcart Prize volumes. Among earlier contributors to the journal are seven Nobel laureates, including I.B. Singer, Nadine Gordimer, John Steinbeck, Derek Walcott and W.H. Auden. Other distinguished writers who have appeared are Arthur Miller, Cynthia Ozick, Joyce Carol Oates, Iris Murdoch, William Styron, Ned Rorem, Stephen Dixon, Bayard Rustin, Ed Bullins and Denise Levertov.

Writer’s Digest awarded CONFRONTATION the distinction of “one of 50 best short story markets for authors” in 2001. Publisher’s Weekly has called the magazine one of the “best literary bargains in the country.” Poets & Writers magazine selected CONFRONTATION as one of 14 most distinguished literary journals in the U.S.
