C.W. Post Launches On-Site M.B.A. Program
for County Employees and Families

August 10, 2005 - Nassau County employees and members of their immediate families will soon be able to study for their Master of Business Administration degree at a county facility with a 33% discount from the cost of regular tuition. This is one more on-site M.B.A. program offered by the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, N.Y. Other notable on-site M.B.A. programs have included Symbol Technologies, Verizon, Olympus America and Northrop Grumman.

“An M.B.A. enables people to manage better, and Nassau County is interested in continuously improving management practices to better serve the needs of county residents and businesses,” says Salvatore F. Cordo, M.B.A. Director.

The program is scheduled to begin in September 2005 at a site yet to be determined. The Nassau County Police Department building in Mineola is one possible location, though others are under consideration. The program will be open to all county employees and members of their immediate families who fulfill the admissions requirements.

Students will enroll in the program as a cohort, meaning that members of each class will take all their courses together as a team. Each class will be capped at 30 students to ensure personalized attention. Two classes will be offered each semester.

“Students progress through the program as a team,” says Cordo. “By working as a cohort throughout the entire program they get to know each other’s functions better, which improves their overall understanding of county operations and concerns. This mirrors the teamwork that typifies modern enterprise and government today. People rarely do things solely on their own; they work in teams. This amplifies the strengths of the group and minimizes the weaknesses, and will bring significant advantages to the county.”

“We are very pleased and proud of the partnership that we have established with C.W. Post and look forward to continuing this relationship,” said Jo-Ann Goldson, Director of Human Resources for Nassau County Government. “This innovative and valuable M.B.A. Program is a “win-win” for residents, business and Nassau County employees,” she said. “At no cost to taxpayers, the state-of-the-art managerial skills and professional development that county employees will acquire through C.W. Post’s M.B.A. Program will generate efficiencies that will benefit everyone.”

Students in other on-site programs have reaped significant benefits from an M.B.A. Cordo points out that 93 percent of one firm’s employees who graduated from the on-site M.B.A. program between 2000 and 2003 have been promoted. There is additional value in a C.W. Post M.B.A. because the program is accredited by the elite AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

“C.W. Post is the leader on Long Island in offering on-site M.B.A. programs,” says Cordo. “We have more than 10 years experience in the development and delivery of on-site graduate business education programs. That solid experience will now benefit Nassau County, its employees and their family members.”
