C.W. Post Professor to Chair Fourth Annual
International Conference on Outsourcing

August 25, 2005 - The Center for Global Outsourcing -- directed by Dr. Shailendra Palvia, a noted outsourcing expert and Professor of Management Information Systems at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, New York -- is hosting an international conference on Global Software/IT Outsourcing onSeptember 15-17, 2005 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in North Bethesda, Maryland.

The conference, “Managing Outsourcing Relationships,” focuses on strengthening the long-term relationship between a vendor company and client. “By nature, outsourcing is built on commitment and mutual trust, much like a marriage,” said Dr. Palvia. “And everyone knows how hard and important it is to manage a marriage.”

Attendees will learn what’s new in global outsourcing, have the opportunity to earn a certificate in global outsourcing management, network with other companies and get consulting from center resources on how to go about making an outsourcing decision.

Keynote speeches will be given by three distinguished people: Dr. Erran Carmel, associate professor in the Information Technology Department at the Kogod School of Business, American University, Ms. Ginny Ritchie, Executive Vice President of BPO Services at MFXchange US, Inc. and Dr. Gad J. Selig, managing partner and founder of GPS Group, a consulting, research and training firm that focuses on marketing and information technology issues.

The conference will feature 27 presentations that will cover numerous topics, including the impact of global outsourcing on the world economy – a political hot button that came into focus in the last general election; and how a company can begin to outsource – learning about the political, legal and culture issues involved. Also on topic, the future of the American IT professionals in relationship to outsourcing – will there be a shortage of these workers in a few years?

Dr. Palvia received his Ph.D. from University of Minnesota, and has more than 100 research articles in refereed journals and refereed conference proceedings. Prior to joining the ranks of academia, Dr. Palvia worked in industry for IBM and Control Data Corporation. His most recent book, with co-editors P. Palvia and Ed Roche, on Global Information Technology and Electronic Commerce, is a standard text used by global information technology and international business curriculums.
