Latin American Authors Celebrated at C.W. Post
Raysa Elena Amador Lectures Oct. 11; Library Exhibit Profiles Writers
September 16 2005 - The works of prominent Latin American authors will be celebrated during the observance of National Hispanic Heritage Month at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville.
Raysa Elena Amador, associate professor and director of Latin American Studies at Adelphi University, will deliver the keynote lecture, “Narrative and Power: Latina Artists in the United States” on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 12:30 p.m. The lecture will be held in the Hutchins Gallery of the B. Davis Schwartz Memorial Library on the C.W. Post Campus at 720 Northern Boulevard in Brookville.
This program, which is free and open to the public, is made possible through the support of the New York Council for the Humanities’ Speakers in the Humanities program.
Biographies, bibliographies, photos and excerpts of the works of Hispanic authors will be on display in the library lobby from Monday, Sept. 26 through Monday, Nov. 28. Among the authors are Isabel Allende, Julia Alvarez, Sandra Cisneros, Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, Oscar Hijuelos, Nicholasa Mohr, Octavio Paz, Gary Soto and William Carlos Williams.
National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 through Oct. 15) celebrates the culture and traditions of United States residents who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico and the Spanish speaking countries of the Caribbean, Central America and South America.
The C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University is located on 720 Northern Boulevard (Route 25A) in Brookville.
