C.W. Post Financial Honor Society Wins Bronze for Membership Boom

October 14, 2005 - Currency comes in many colors, but the students in the C.W. Post chapter of the Financial Management Association (FMA) National Honor Society are seeing bronze. With 25 new members inducted into their group last year, they were given the FMA Bronze National Honor Society Membership Development Award for 2004-05, a prize bestowed on only 5% of all FMA chapters around the world.

“This is a great honor for our organization,” said Zhaohui Zhang, Ph.D., faculty adviser to the club and Assistant Professor of Finance in the College of Management at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. “This award recognizes the hard work of our students and the academic standards they hold themselves to.” Dr. Zhang added that the honor also acknowledges the initiative of College of Management alumna Michelle Lopez ’05, the chapter’s former vice president and the involvement of Andrea Newman, an M.B.A. student, who is the chapter’s current president.

The honor society is part of the C.W. Post student chapter of the FMA. In order to be inducted into the honor society, graduate students must have a grade point average of 3.5 or greater; undergraduates 3.25 or greater, and be a finance major.

This past year the club has raised more than $2,000 in fundraisers, held two successful stock market investment simulation contests, and invited guest speakers to address the members on various topics in finance.

The C.W. Post chapter of the FMA National Honor Society is part of the C.W. Post College of Management Business Program. The College’s business degrees are accredited by the prestigious AACSB International – the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
