C.W. Post Expert Authors New Book on Islamic Terrorists in U.S.
January 17, 2005 - A secret network of extremist Islamic operatives is at work in the United States and planning new opportunities to strike, reveals a new book by terrorism expert Dr. Harvey Kushner, chair of the Department of Criminal Justice at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.
"Holy War on the Home Front: The Secret Islamic Terror Network in the United States," published by Penguin, uses never-before-seen documents from government sources to expose a secret network of spies, terrorists, corrupt religious leaders and violent criminals awaiting an opportunity to attack.
According to Dr. Kushner, some members of this network are recent immigrants; others have been American citizens for years. Some are laundering money from abroad through seemingly innocuous charities and mosques. Some have even infiltrated the U.S. military as Arabic translators and Muslim chaplains.
"My book identifies and assesses the violent plans of these Islamic organizations and individuals who take advantage of our reluctance to engage in ethnic profiling," said Dr. Kushner. "Finding and stopping these conspiracies will require drastic changes in the way Americans think about terrorism."
Dr. Kushner has been an advisor to the FBI, the Federal Aviation Administration, the Immigration and Naturalization Service and other government agencies. Dr. Kushner has experience with a variety of high profile court cases involving international terrorism. He wrote the expert's report in a successful multimillion-dollar civil litigation arising out of the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center. He also served as an expert during the U.S. Embassy bombing trial in 2001 and wrote the expert's report in a landmark matrimonial case involving the risk of international terrorism after the destruction of the World Trade Center. After the 9-11 attacks, Dr. Kushner was asked to testify on terrorism and safety in New York City's public spaces before the Committee of Public Safety of the Council of the City of New York. Most recently, he was invited by the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States to participate in a VIP pre-briefing before the release of the Final Report of the 9-11 Commission.
Widely quoted in the national news media on terrorism, Dr. Kushner is the author of award-winning books, including "Encyclopedia of Terrorism" (Sage Publications, 2003) and "Terrorism in America: A Structured Approach to Understanding the Terrorist Threat" (Charles C. Thomas, 1998).
His latest book, "Holy War on the Home Front: The Secret Islamic Terror Network in the United States," (hardcover, $24.95) is available from major book retailers as well as at www.amazon.com
