C.W. Post Campus to Celebrate Wellness Day on February 16
January 28, 2005 - Taking care of the whole self - mind and body - will be the lesson of the day at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University as the Campus celebrates "Wellness Day: Pathways to Health," on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 from noon until 6 p.m. in Hillwood Commons.
Sponsored by the C.W. Post Wellness Committee, which is comprised of student groups, faculty departments and the Student Affairs Division, Wellness Day will feature interactive workshops and exercises where members of the Campus community can learn about their personal well being.
Events include a dream workshop where a dream worker will lead a group in discussing basic dream analysis; spiritual journaling, which will offer participants practical advice on journaling and blogging; and an art therapy demonstration where students will be able to participate in a session. Fair goers will also have the opportunity to meet with registered nurses to discuss health concerns such as cancer and mental illness and learn how to perform self breast and testicular examinations. There will be healthy cooking demonstrations, as well as yoga and stretching classes.
Are you looking for a last-minute Valentine's Day gift? Starting Monday, February 14, for a donation, you can make an appointment for yourself or a loved one for a massage given at the fair by a licensed massage therapist. All proceeds will be forwarded to the Save the Children Relief Agency for the recent victims of the tsunami in Southern Asia.
"This is a fun, interactive way to educate people about the most important person in their lives-themselves," said William Milford, Director of Student Health and Counseling at C.W. Post. "We hope people come away with a better understanding of the connection between mind and body health."
