Matthew C. Cordaro, Ph.D., Appointed to Suffolk County Exec’s Energy Advisory Panel
March 29, 2005 — Brookville, NY—While many Long Islanders are concerned about the future of Long Island’s energy supply, Matthew C. Cordaro, Ph.D., is actually helping local leaders to address the many difficult issues involved. Cordaro, Associate Dean of the College of Management at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University and director of the campus’ Center for Management Analysis, has been appointed to a panel recently convened by Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy to discuss the future of energy on Long Island. This panel, which is expected to deliver recommendations to the County Executive, will review the activities of LIPA and Key Span and proposals concerning how best the energy needs of Long Islanders can be met in the future.
“In order to help public officials to make informed decisions on a topic that will affect the economics and help shape the environment of Long Island for the next 40 years, I have convened a panel of experts who will explore a host of complex issues and options concerning the current and future state of energy on Long Island,” said County Executive Levy.
“This is a very critical time for energy on Long Island,” Cordaro said. “I’m very pleased to be working with the County Executive and to have the opportunity to advise him on issues that need to be addressed.”
Cordaro, a Shoreham resident, is a 40-year veteran of the energy industry. He has extensive hands-on, management, and administrative experience in all sectors of the energy business – ranging from investor owned or privately held utilities to public energy providers and independent system operators. He left the Long Island Lighting Company in 1988 as Senior Vice President, and went on to serve as CEO for two other major utilities. In addition, he has played a leading role in representing public power before industry and government organizations including appearances before the U.S. Congress and other federal and state agencies. Cordaro has also been a guest research associate at the Brookhaven National Laboratory and authored many publications on energy, environment and utility issues.
